Bio

Lysz Flo is an AfroCaribbean Latine, polyglot (Haitian Creole, Spanish, French, K drama Korean), spoken word artist, educator, indie author, member of The Estuary Collective, Creatively Exposed podcast host, Voodoonauts Summer 2020 Fellow and Obsidian Black Listening 2022 Fellow. She is a 2024 Ignyte Award Winner for her CNF, Magic is by the Roots published by FIYAH Magazine. She released her poetry novel Soliloquy of an Ice Queen, March 2020. Her poems can be found in Strange Horizons, Lolwe, Royal Rose Mag, Hellebore, Skin Coloured Mag, Digging Press among others. She has done various multimedia projects work with O’ Miami. She also taught poetry at Morningside Elementary in Haitian Creole and French with O’Miami as well. Previously did over 22 creative writing workshops at Grubstreet. Artist Statement

Reimagning worlds through writing is how I make space for grief, for hope for healing and possibility. I conspire with the universe in a form of spell casting. My writing is where despair, hope, and heartache become alchemized into something more to further build the world I’d like to live in. I aim to paint pictures of my communities in the future. Poetry holds my truths in its forms and words so that it can live outside of my body in a world that is literally burning. To build what an speculative safe space for generational healing and life’s current observations and critiques.
